The Progressive Israel Network is deeply troubled and pained by the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Nearly half a million people in Gaza are now facing catastrophic hunger; the entire population is food insecure.
As a coalition of organizations committed to democracy, human rights, and a shared future for Israelis and Palestinians, members of the Progressive Israel Network have issued a variety of strong responses to the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza. Now, together and with urgency, we call for sustained humanitarian aid. Food, water, medicine and shelter are basic human rights, and no one, especially no child, should be deprived of them. This Network is of one mind: withholding aid from civilians is both morally indefensible and strategically harmful for Israel.
In different ways, PIN members are mobilizing: Some are actively raising funds for relief efforts through trusted aid groups like World Central Kitchen. Some are engaging policymakers around efforts to urge the U.S. and Israeli governments to facilitate the urgent delivery of food, water, and medical supplies. Still others are vociferously advocating for a ceasefire and the release of hostages as part of a broader strategy toward de-escalation and long-term peace. And, of course, many are signing petitions and making public calls that insist food aid enter Gaza.
No organization in this network can remain silent or idle in the face of the unbearable suffering of children, women and men that we are witnessing.
